YOU CAN RECOVER ALL
TEXT : 1 SAMUEL 30:1-6
1 Three days later, when David and his men arrived home at their town of Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and Ziklag; they had crushed Ziklag and burned it to the ground.
2 They had carried off the women and children and everyone else but without killing anyone .
3 When David and his men saw the ruins and realized what had happened to their families ,
4 they wept until they could weep no more.
5 David’s two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel, were among those captured.
6 David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
David left Ziklag for three days. But when he came back the Amalekites had raided Southern Judah and attacked Ziklag.
Ziklag means the ” MEASURE PRESSED DOWN”. The place of abundance.
And it’s located at the Southern part of Judah. The south is situated at the lower part.
The territorial identity of Ziklag at the Southern part of Judah means Deepest side of Worship(PRAISE) where there is abundance (MEASURE PRESSED DOWN).
He was absent for three days and the enemies attacked. They did not only stole everything away from them, they also burnt the whole place. They made sure there was no trace of life (both plant, animal and man) in that land.
When the devil attacks he attacks to destroy everything, it’s not in his attribute to leave somethings behind. He doesn’t take chances.
That’s why as children of God, it’s dangerous to give the devil an inch or be emotional about him, He is a very bad devil!
Amalekites mean ” Those who take it all”
No wonder, God gave Saul the assignment to utterly destroy the Amalekites.
They attacked their worship life. Because they were absent for three days.
They targeted the deepest part of their praise life (Southern Judah). They stole everything away and burnt the land.
Then David and his team cried. They cried until they all became weak.
David’s wives were stolen away from him. His family was attacked. Amalekites don’t target just one man who is their enemy they target everything associated with the man they want to punish.
You remember, Haman the Agagites, he decided to clear out the whole Jewish nation just because, Modecai offended him.
Ahinoam and Abigail were also taken away. The two precious wives of David. Ahinoam means “PLEASANTNESS/ BEAUTY” and Abigail means ” JOY OF THE FATHER”
So they raided the family of David and took away Beauty and Joy. David wept bitterly. The land was raided in such a way that the people decided to stone David to death.
Yet in that pain, David encouraged himself in the Lord. He didn’t give up. He pressed into God to know what to do.
Same thing Esther, Modecai and the Jews did when Haman the Agagite (the Amalekite) decided to destroy them.
Yes we know that the waves have lifted up their voices, but we have a God whose noise is mightier than the noise of many waters.
It’s not time to keep crying. Let’s rise up from the dust like a true daughter of Zion. Shake ourselves off the dust and press into God for light.
The song writer says, “Don’t give up on God cause he won’t give up on you, He is able.”
Let’s rise up from the pain and press into God. He will restore all things to us.
David left the place of his deepest praise, the place of measure pressed down, the place of abundance and the enemy struck. But he recovered all.
Mary and Joseph lost Jesus while coming back from Jerusalem, it took them three days to get him back.
One thing I am sure of is that, whenever we turn to him, he comes to our rescue.
Are you weak, are you battered, are you depressed. Are you under the attacks of the Amalekites. Do you see the devil waging war against you to utterly destroy you?
Then stop the complain, stop the secret tears and turn to the saviour. Our advocate. He is readily waiting for us.
When the prodigal son came home, his father was already waiting for him.
When Hezekiah turned to God after he heard his death verdict, God showed him mercy and reversed it.
GOD IS waiting, Don’t give up. Just turn to him.
