MAXIMIZING THE DARK SEASONS

TEXT: GENESIS 13: 10-11, 14:14-15

10. And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

11.Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

14:14-15
14. And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
15. And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

We all know the story of how Lot through his covetousness choose the best of the land with greener pasture and left Abraham with nothing than the most unfruitful part of the land. Abraham never accused Lot of his irrational behaviour but he turned to God to know what lies ahead of him, because the blessing is not in the place but in the person.

God assured him of his presence and promise. Abraham held on to God’s assurance, even though there was no sign of it coming.

Then a new assignment came up. TRAIN UP THESE CHILDREN!

They were not his biological children but God has brought them to him by divine arrangement. He trained them against battle, even though the land was peaceful. Abraham was silently building capacity to take territories and cities with those children.

Lot and his household were busy enjoying themselves but Abraham was building men to take territories. It’s not about what’s on the surface, it’s about what’s been done in the soil. Because the processes that occur in the soil determines the durability of the visible parts of the tree.

In verse 15, of Genesis chapter 14, the Bible said that Abraham divided himself against those four kings and their servants at night.

So Abraham was not just training them but pouring himself out to those children. I now understand why God told Gideon in Judges 6, that He will defeat the Midianites as one man.

Hmmm, behind Delilah are the Lords of the Philistines.

Don’t waste your underground seasons, maximize them well. Carry out the assignment given to you even if it looks as though there is no need for it.

Remember, the next time Jacob met with Esau after running away from him, he had poured himself into 400 men. Esau was no more alone.

In this kingdom, No idleness. We are in the battle field. When the enemies bury us, we grow out because we are God’s seed. And a prophecy had gone ahead that it is thy seed that all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

Every season is fruitful, let us find out what the Lord has packaged for us and carry it out. Remember light shines the most at the darkest hours.
