Gratitude 6

thevictorial | January 9, 2022

TEXT: JOHN 12:2-6

Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,

Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

Gratitude means Grateful Attitude.
Mary had received the mercy of God and she decided to show appreciation.
She had developed a grateful attitude and the only way she could show it was to give to the Lord her most expensive treasure.
She brought out the ointment and broke the box to anoint Jesus.
Gratitude compels you to give to God.

You don’t mind the cost, especially if he has shown you mercy beyond your comprehension.

Most Christians can praise and worship God but when it comes to offering God their substance, it becomes difficult to do.
We tend to rationalize and calculate.

A grateful heart is open to giving. A grateful heart is compelled by love.

Jesus had done so much for her and all she could do was to give God her treasure.

But like Judas, most Christians can’t give God their treasure. Judas did not treasure Jesus, that was even why he sold him for 30 silver shekels.

That’s the price worth of a slave. The scripture established that earlier. (Exodus 21:32) “ If the bull gored a slave man or a slave girl, he will give the price of 30 shekels to that one’s master, and the bull will be stoned to death.”

It is a ridiculously amount. When Zechariah asked for his payment and he was paid such amount,it was so ridiculous that he didn’t spend it.

Zechariah 11:12, 13. “12 Then I said to them: “If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, withhold them.” And they paid my wages, 30 pieces of silver.
13 Then Jehovah said to me: “Throw it into the treasury—the magnificent value with which they valued me.” So I took the 30 pieces of silver and threw it into the treasury at the house of Jehovah.”

He threw the money couldn’t even spend it.

How valuable is God to you. The offering and substance you give to him is a prove of how much you value him.

Cultivate a grateful attitude. Honor God with your first fruit, offerings and gifts.

This is a new year. Lets turn a new leaf.
