MEETING THE KING OUTSIDE (ON THE FIELD )

TEXT: Matthew 25:1-13
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
And five of them were wise, and five were foolish .
They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept .
And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out .
But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves .
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us .
But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
They all appear prepared. They all waited for the bridegroom. They all slept off as the waiting lingered into the night and it appeared as though the bridegroom was no more coming. But things started changing when there was an awakening. When the announcement came that the bridegroom cometh.
Behold, the bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet him.
My concern today is not about the coming of the bridegroom but the fact that they needed to go out to meet him.
Until the announcement came, no one could differentiate between the foolish and the wise. But when the announcement came, differences became more clearer.
They needed to do three things
1. Wake up
2. Dress up
3. Go out.
They all woke up, dressed up but in going out everyone needed to trim and take their lamps, It was in trimming their lamps the foolish ones discovered their oil had finished.
The announcement came with a new responsibility “GO YE (YOU) OUT TO MEET HIM “.
Meaning that it is in your going out, you will meet the king. If you meet him outside in the field, it shows you are prepared and ready for him. If he comes to meet you inside, it’s gonna be sudden and it also means you are not ready for his coming.
Yes we are waiters, but not an idle waiter. As we wait for the coming back of our King. The Lord is saying Go Out. Go out and do what? Go out TO meet him (Note that it is not GO OUT AND MEET HIM…Meaning you don’t just go out and the next thing is meeting him. But in your going out is the starting point of meeting him). Go out and win souls, Go out and do the assignment he has given you. It’s in your going, you will meet the king.
The announcement came with a new responsibility, GO YE (YOU) OUT TO MEET HIM!
As though we do not care, what you have been busy doing in the waiting room, this is not the time to keep waiting at the waiting room. This season is for going out, and as you go out, you will meet him.
They have been comfortably dressed and slept off. All their waiting have been in the waiting room. But as the bridegroom’s coming became nearer than ever before and the announcer announced his coming. A new responsibility came up and that’s the only criteria to meet him. GO OUT!
Genesis 32: 1 “Now as Jacob went on his way, the angels of God met him.”
Jacob could encounter this angel as a result of his going out.
It is not humility if we keep quiet and not win souls into the kingdom. The season of complacency is gone.
This is not even the season of “I don’t have what it takes”. Just like Gideon the Lord is saying, Go in this thy might. Go out. After Gideon complains, God told him there is still a need to go and save his people. Because the Bible says even the weakest will be as David. GO! GO!! GO!!!
The whole creation waiteth for the manifestations of the sons of God. But these foolish virgins got to the place of birthing their assignment and had no strength to push it.
This is even the big deal of all deals. Wake up, Dress up and Go out.
They all woke up, dressed up but in going out, the foolishness of the foolish surfaced.
They couldn’t set up. Their strength was little, their lamp was dim, they have no inbuilt capacity to keep the fire burning. Their fire had gone down. When they needed to be hungry to gather the oil to burn, they were complacent.
What can sustain this fire is the oil. So the ones with extra oil did all they could to sustain their fire. They needed to preserve the fire, so they took extra oil with them. Those without the extra oil saw no reason to sustain the fire.
Waking up entails to coming alive into the new reality of the seasons we are. Coming back to life, leaving the passive state.
Dressing up means getting yourself ready to meet the king.
But without trimming your lamp, you can’t be able to meet the king because your fire must be burning and that lamp is not expected to go off anytime.
The coming of our Lord Jesus is nearer than ever and to meet him, there is a need to go out to fulfil his mandate of soul winning. As we do so, we will meet our Lord.
To meet him, you need oil. There will be a time when it will be too late to burn for God.
So burn now. The world needs it now. The whole creation is expectant!
