LEARNING FROM UNCLE JOHN 1

LUKE 7 :1-23
Jesus had done two miracles early in this chapter but the mind blowing one was the bringing back to life of the son of the widow of Nain. The people had praised God for sending a prophet to them. They rejoiced and praised God , then the fame of Jesus went abroad.
While his fame went abroad, John the Baptist was battling with offence. What about me? Why is he silent about my situation? He didn’t even make any attempt to come visiting?
Are you also in the same shoes with John, asking why others are testifying and nothing is happening to you. You feel you are in this situation because of your divine assignment, yet God is been silent.
Let’s keep on gleaning as we look out for the problem and the way forward .
John the Baptist told his disciples to go ask from Jesus if he was the Messiah or they should look for another…. what! He doubted him. He doubted the man he had once declared, “This is the lamb that took away the sins of the whole world” and he had told his own disciples to behold.
He doubted the man he had once declared, “I am not worthy to remove the latches of his shoes”.
He doubted the man he had once declared, “I indeed baptize with water but when the Messiah comes he will baptize you with fire”.
He doubted the man he had once said I will decrease that he may increase .
Oh! What a act of betrayal! Do you know what? The implication of his statement to Jesus he concluded that Jesus being the Messiah is a scam. All he had lived for could be a scam. How could he!
But he had once referred to himself as the voice in the wilderness preparing for the coming of the Lord. So what happened to that ministry in the wilderness. When he became the prophet in vogue. Those period, the bible say and all Judea came to him to be baptized. Even the Pharisees believed he was a prophet, at some point they mistook him for the messiah and came to sake if he was the Messiah or to look for another. Now circumstances of life had made him turn the table. He is now directing the question to Jesus, not on a one on one discussion, he sent his disciples to Jesus. What!
He was offended. But Jesus said, blessed is he who is not offended at me. Offence is very powerful and it blindfolds a man. It can even make you doubt your faith in Christ and if care is not taken, you can loose your head.
How did he get here?
He was meant to be the voice in the wilderness and not voice in the palace/politics. He was to prepare the way for the messiah to come. After revealing the messiah, he was to go off the scene for the messiah to come up stage. But at some point even after revealing the messiah, he was still on stage.
Learn from Uncle John o. What is your assignment ? When are you to quit and move to the next phase? What is the next phase of your assignment?
The fact that you are pulling effect in a location doesn’t mean you can pull effect everywhere. As ministers of God, don’t be independent of God’s instructions per time. Learn to wait on him always. The reason you are pulling effect is because of obedience to instructions, you may not be able to survive it if you drift a little. Even Jesus will only do what he sees the father do.
